🚗 Ventana Weekly Road Trip in Gran Canaria #2

This week’s roadtrip in Gran Canaria takes us deep into the mountainous heart of the island, far from the coast and into a completely different side of the island. Expect volcanic landscapes, pine forests, small villages and some of the most impressive viewpoints Gran Canaria has to offer.

Road Trip in Gran Canaria

1st STOP: BANDAMA CRATER 🌲

We begin the day driving to Bandama Crater, one of Gran Canaria’s most impressive volcanic sites. From the viewpoint, the sheer scale of the 200 meter deep crater gives a first glimpse into the island’s volcanic past.
Take some time to walk around, take photos and enjoy the contrast between lush greenery and dark volcanic rock before heading deeper into the mountains.

2nd STOP: ROQUE NUBLO ⛰️

Our next highlight is Roque Nublo, the most iconic natural monument of Gran Canaria. A short and accessible hike leads us close to this massive volcanic rock formation rising from the surrounding plateau.
From here, the views stretch across the island and, on clear days, all the way to Mount Teide in Tenerife. It’s one of the most powerful and memorable spots of the day.
Make sure to register for your free permit online before you head there!

3rd STOP: ARTENARA 🥘

After Roque Nublo, we descend slightly to Artenara, the highest village on the island and famous for its typical cave houses. Here we stop for lunch at Restaurante La Cilla, a local favorite known for its traditional Canarian dishes and its spectacular views over La Cumbre.
This is a relaxed moment to enjoy good food, recharge and soak in the peaceful mountain atmosphere.

4th STOP: PICO DE LAS NIEVES 🌄

To finish the day, we return to the main mountain ridge and head to Pico de las Nieves, the highest point of Gran Canaria. As the sun begins to set, the light slowly changes, painting the mountains and valleys in warm colors.
On clear days, Tenerife and Teide Volcano appear on the horizon, creating a breathtaking end to the roadtrip. Watching the sunset from here is a calm, unforgettable moment and the perfect way to close the day.
