This pristine beach is know as one the best waves of Europe. Its a natural paradise in the middle of the Surf City Las Palmas! Also the perfect place for a sunset beer, a spontaneous yoga session or interesting conversations with new friends.

The neighbourhood of "La Isleta" is located on the volcanic half-island just after Las Canteras Beach. It is one of the most authentic canarian "barrios" of the city. Stroll through the colourful streets of La Isleta end your walk at Confital Beach.

"La Barra" is a reef located a few hundred meters away from the beach and our hostel. With low tide this reef creates like a natural swimming pool full of colourful fishes and other creatures of the sea. You can even walk on this reef (low tide) and see the city from another perspective. Once the hitide hits in, you will be able to enjoy little "waterfalls" that give you the feeling of being in a natural Spa 🙂

The Parque Santa Catalina Square is located around the harbour of Las Palmas. We recommend you to have a coffee in one of the cafes under palm trees, watch the older generation play chess and then maybe continue your walk to the shopping centre "El Muelle" and enjoy the views over one of the biggest harbours of southern Europe.

The square and church are maybe the most iconic and historic place of the city. Here on the 24th of June 1478 the city of Las Palmas was founded by the spanish conquerer Juan Rejón. Today this square often is used for public concerts. There is also a nice coffe where you enjoy the shadow of the palm trees or you could also take the elevator to be surprised by the amazing view over the oldtown and the atlantic ocean.

Triana & Vegueta are the most historic districts of Las Palmas. We strongly recommend you to stroll through the beautiful pedestrian streets, do some shopping or enjoy one of the many good restaurants. Every Thursday night the "Ruta de las Tapas" takes place in the street "Mendizabal". Also the Market "Mercado de Vegueta" with a wide variety of tropical fruits is worth a visit.

For our young surfers & sports lover this skatepark is a good insider. Its located just next to Parque Santa Catalina square and the harbours. So you can see all of this places in one day.

This huge harbour is the home of many sailing boats. Some of them leave for the Caribbean during the ARC Rally which takes places every year in November. Its nice to feel the vibe and smell the ocean while you stroll through this colourful and happy harbour. There is a nice bar/Restaurant for a break.

Very close to the Sailing harbour. We recommend you to walk through the district "Ciudad Jardin" first. It was created by english businessman already in the end of the 19th century! Most of the houses have a little garden and general its a very green area. Which is a strong contrast to most of other districts of Las Palmas. You should end up in Parque Doramas which is full of tropical plants and waterfountains.

This botanical garden is located in the outskirts of Las Palmas. You can reach it from the San Telmo busstation by public transport. You will find a wide range of tropical plants, cactus and other endemic plants of the island here. You will be surprised by its size and diversity. Check here for opening times.
You can also hike there by starting in the oldtown and walking through the valley of Guiniguada.

1. parque natural de tamadaba
This wonderful area, located on one of the highest cliffs of Europe, is one of the oldest pine wood forests of the island. It is full of climbing spots and hiking paths that will offer you breathtaking views to the atlantic ocean and the neighbour island Tenerife with its highest mountain of Spain: the Teide (3718m).

2. roque nublo / pico de las nieves
Welcome to one of the best sunset spots in the world! Not much more to say. This place is maybe THE hightlight of your trips on Gran Canaria. Especially if you have only 1 week time. If you have a month, we can tell you 50 highlights more 🙂

Agaete is worth a visit for many reason. The lush and green valley itsself. The coffe farms (unique in Europe) and the beach and natural volcanic swimming pools. You can spend a whole day there exploring and enjoying the special vibe of this cozy village. Its also the perfect starting point for some amazing hiking trips to Tamadaba or the pristine, black sanded beach of Guayedra.

4. dunas de maspalomas
You wont believe your eyes! We have a small "Sahara" on the island. We recommend you to have a walk through the dunes with sunrise. You will be surprised by the silence of this place. And how the thunder of the waves gets louder and louder while you walk towards the sea. Its a very touristic area thats why we recommend you to be there early before the crowds hit in.

5. caldera de bandama
This is one of the volcanoes we have inside the city of Las Palmas (yes there are several). You can enjoy amazing views over the city, harbour and the eastcoast of Gran Canaria from top of the volcanoe. Or you can also do one of the 2 hiking trails: 1.) Walk down into the volcanoe 2.) Walk around it. Very easy to reach with public transport from Las Palmas.

6. barraco de las vacas
Located in the "middle of nowhere" on the eastcoast of Gran Canaria this place turned out to be one of the most popular "Instagram" spots of Gran Canaria. Its the best example for the landscape diversity that you can find on Gran Canaria.

7. la fortaleza
This place is sacred. You will soon feel a special energy when you climb up this impressive natural fortress. It was the place of the last fight between the spanish crown and the canarian aborgines. On the 24th of August 1479 the last canarian warriors lost their last and very sad battle. Most of them commited suicide by jumping from the high cliffs. It was the end of a culture and the beginning of the modern Gran Canaria as we know it.

8. playa guigui
The next rocker! This pristine and remote beach is also an absolute must and maybe the reason for you to stay longer than just 1 week! We strongly recommend you to stay there over the night and bring your sleeping bag. Watch the stars, hear the ocean and celebrate some unforgettable moments with your new friends on the island.

9. barranco de azuaje
Another mysterious place full of history. This dense forest was once the hiding place of "Doramas" know as the Robbin Hood of Gran Canaria. For many years Doramas and his fearless warriors were fighting off sucessfully the spanish crown. You can still feel this remote and exotic vibe while walking through the narrow valley of Azuaje. Full of clean spring water, exotic plants and mysterious histories of the past.

10. charco azul
If you want to see the waterfall in all its glory we recommend you to go there from november until April/May. You can combine this visit with passing by the valley and village of Agaete. The waterfalls are located just outside the wonderful, tiny village of "El Risco" which also offers a pristine beach: the legendary "Playa el Risco". Great place to see the sunset after the waterfalls.

1. the block cafe
The Block is the perfect place for a coffe, small snack or also to have some beers (open until 1.30 after midnight). You can watch the surfers pass by on the paseo or see them even in action while you work on your laptop or you enjoy the company of your new friends.
Its one of the places to be in our neighbourhood!
2. tasca galileo
This place is perfect for a nice evening eating out. This restaurant is focusing mainly on typical spanish food.
3. el mono malvado
This bar is nice to have some drinks and cocktails. Its located right on Plaza Farray where you can find some more nice bars. This square has a very lively vibe every evening. You will be able to meet other backpackers, surfers and also local young people there.
4. vinos y quesos
This place is located just a few steps from our hostel. As the name says you can get great local vine and cheese there!
Bodegón Pachichi is located just a few metres from Las Canteras Beach. If you are looking for local food, you can enjoy all the different tapas which are typical on this island
6. la bikina
Located if front the beach Las Canteras, It's a good place to eat yummy and healthy food, with a nice view. It's a cozy place with good vibes.

Located 5 minutes walking from the hostel, you're gonna find the best Italian pizza in town.
