COVID19 News November 2020: Las Palmas
3rd of November 2020
We would like to update you regarding the general COVID19 situation as well as the measurements the Canarian Government in general and we as a hostel in specific, take to protect our guests & visitors.
In August we had to experience that the active Covid cases in Las Palmas were rising strongly. For that reason the local authorities imposed obligatory mask in all public areas. This law is still in place but thanks to that the active Covid cases are now decreasing strongly in September 2020 and been stable in October.
As our temperatures are stable around 22 degrees the whole year most of canarian social life takes place outside. This and the constant presence of the sun with its Vitamin D, which is good for our immune system, might help that the COVID situation was quite stable in the last few months and is far from being as dramatic than on the continent of Europe.
Negative Covid Test obligatory to checkin at any touristic accomodation on Canary Islands:
For that reason and in order to protect the local population, as well as to garantee your safe holidays this new law was published a few days ago:
As of November 13, 2020, all national and foreign tourists 6 years old and over, must have a PCR or antibody test done 72 hours before arrival at the Vacation Rentals, reflecting a NEGATIVE outcome. The client can send this by email before arriving.
If the visitor is a Canary Island resident or is not a resident but has arrived in the Canary Islands prior to November 13 and has remained in the islands for more than 15 days and wants to access a Vacation Rental property, as of November 13, no test will be required.
The Decree requires that visitors or residents who wish to access a Vacation Rental must sign an affidavit and provide documentation (such as their airline ticket, a copy of their passport or any other document that reflects the date of their arrival in the Canary Islands).
If the visitor cannot justify their stay of at least 15 days in the Canary Islands prior to November 13, they will have to present a PCR or antibody test that reflects a NEGATIVE outcome in order to access the Vacation Rental.
What does life with COVID19 look like right now in Las Palmas?
Basicall you will be able to live normal life, with all activities opened that you want to enjoy in your holidays. The biggest downfall is maybe that we have no nightlife right now & that wearing a mask is obligatory in many situations of everyday life – including the common areas of our hostel.
Also we do not organize any big social events inside the hostel but we will do them outside the house (on the beach and in restaurants and bars).
The good news is that if you do sport you don´t have to wear a mask. As well while hanging out on the beach. While you are in a bar or restaurant drinking our eating something you can obviously also take off your mask.
Our recommendation would be to do as much sports as possible and join one of our activities like surfing, hiking, climbing, diving or paradgliding. See more activities. Also you should rent a car and explore the beaches and mountains of Gran Canaria.
